Metal plan summary
The benefits of Revolut Metal in detail
Metal crosses several qualitative thresholds compared with Premium. Here is what each benefit means in concrete terms.
-
Unlimited fee-free exchange, with no cap and no weekend mark-up
Metal removes any cap on fee-free exchange: you can convert as much as you like at the interbank market rate, and without the weekend mark-up applied to Standard (1%) and Plus (0.5%). For frequent travellers or professionals transacting in foreign currencies, the saving compared with typical bank exchange margins (1 to 3%) can add up to several hundred euros a year depending on how much you spend abroad.
-
Lounge access at a reduced rate: like Premium, but not unlimited
Metal gives access to airport lounges in the DragonPass network at a reduced rate (identical to Premium, around €28 per visit, indicative price shown in the app). It is not free, unlimited access: you pay a reduced price on each visit. For unlimited lounge access with no extra charge, only the Ultra plan (€60/month) offers it. So Metal is not the right option if systematic free lounge access is your main criterion.
-
Stainless steel card: a distinctive physical feel
The Revolut Metal card is made of stainless steel (18 g), with a noticeably higher weight than a standard plastic card. Beyond the look, it signals premium status in professional settings. The finishes available include space black, space grey and silver. The card is delivered in neat packaging within 3 to 5 working days.
-
RevPoints ×5 vs Standard: one of the best earning rates among neobanks
With Metal, you earn 1 point per €2 spent, that is ×5 the rate of the Standard plan (1 point per €10). On €1,500 a month of spending, you earn 750 points a month with Metal (9,000 a year), versus 150 with Standard (1,800 a year). At the indicative value of 0.7 cents a point, the gap is worth around €50 a year in travel or through Revolut Pay, depending on how you redeem them.
-
Phone insurance included: estimated value €5 a month
Metal is the first plan to cover your smartphone against theft, loss and accidental damage. Equivalent phone insurance taken out separately (with your mobile operator or an insurer) generally costs between €5 and €12 a month depending on the model. Included in Metal, it contributes directly to the plan paying for itself.
-
The most complete travel insurance of the mid-range plans
Metal travel insurance covers medical expenses up to €10,000,000, cancellation (up to €5,000), baggage (up to €1,000), flight and baggage delays (up to €500) and personal liability abroad, for trips of up to 30 days. It is near-exhaustive protection, equivalent to the "premium" policies sold by specialist insurers at €120 to €180 a year.
-
Savings boost of +1% on Vaults
The interest earned on your Revolut savings gets a +1% boost with Metal (vs +0.5% on Premium and +0% on Standard). On €10,000 of savings, that is an extra €100 a year, a modest but real contribution to the plan's overall value.
-
Partner perks and eSIM
Since the July 2026 price rise, Metal includes 3 GB of eSIM data a month abroad and partner subscriptions (Super Duolingo, Flo Premium, Lovable Lite, Laundryheap+, L'Équipe). Their real value depends on your usage: only count them if you would have paid for them anyway.
Revolut Metal in figures: a concrete example
Here is a realistic calculation for an "average traveller with significant spending" profile: €2,000 a month of card spending, made in foreign currencies.
These figures are estimates based on a traveller profile with €2,000 a month of spending in foreign currencies and a reference bank margin of 1.5%. The value of the lounge discount is not included because it varies with how often you use it. Your actual benefit depends on your exact profile. Use our simulator for a personalised calculation.
The limits of Revolut Metal
-
No cashback on personal accounts, only on Pro accounts
Cashback at Revolut is reserved exclusively for business plans (Revolut Pro). Personal accounts, Metal included, offer no cashback on card spending. If cashback matters to you, third-party premium bank cards (American Express, some co-branded cards) offer rates of 1 to 2%. Metal's advantage lies in the package as a whole: reduced-rate lounge access, full insurance and RevPoints ×5 vs Standard.
-
Metal costs €8 a month more than Premium: the gap has to be justified
If you travel little (fewer than 4 times a year), do not use lounges regularly and your phone is already insured, the Premium plan at €10.99 may be enough and cheaper. Metal only pays off if you actually activate its differentiating perks.
-
Lounge access at a reduced rate, not free and unlimited
Metal gives access to airport lounges at a reduced rate (around €28 per visit through DragonPass), like Premium. It is not free access. Standard and Plus can also access lounges but at full price (around €35). If you want completely free lounges, only the Ultra plan (€60/month) offers them for the account holder.
Revolut Metal: which profile exactly?
This plan is for you if...
- You travel 4 times a year or more and use airport lounges
- Your monthly card spending exceeds €1,500 (the RevPoints rate of 1 point per €2 generates significant value)
- You want phone insurance without taking out a separate policy
- You want reduced-rate lounge access and the physical metal card
- The physical metal card and the status that comes with it have value in your professional context
- You want the best RevPoints rate available below Ultra (1 point per €2, that is ×5 vs Standard)
Avoid this plan if...
- You travel fewer than 4 times a year: Premium at €10.99 is cheaper
- You do not use lounges and your spending abroad is low: Metal's distinctive perks never kick in
- You want completely free lounge access: Metal does not offer it (reduced rate only), only Ultra does for the account holder

Metal vs Ultra: for +€41.01/month (€60 in total), Ultra brings RevPoints ×10 (vs ×5), free lounges for the account holder (around €28 saved per visit vs Metal), ATM withdrawals up to €2,000/month (then 2%) and 21 partners including Amazon Prime. It pays off from around 1.5 lounge visits a month; below that, Metal is the better deal. Our Ultra review

Frequently asked questions about Revolut Metal
Does Revolut Metal really pay for itself?
For a frequent traveller with significant spending in foreign currencies, Metal can pay for itself thanks to unlimited fee-free exchange, full insurance and the RevPoints rate of 1 point per €2 (×5 vs Standard). The phone insurance included (equivalent value: €5 to €12 a month) also contributes directly.
Be aware: Metal gives lounge access at a reduced rate, not free and unlimited. If lounges are your main reason for expecting value, only Ultra offers them free and unlimited. Our simulator will give you a precise answer based on your profile.
How does lounge access work with Metal?
Revolut Metal gives access to lounges in the DragonPass network (1,600+ lounges) at a reduced rate, around €28 per visit (indicative price shown in the app), just like Premium. Standard and Plus also allow lounge access but at full price. So it is not a perk exclusive to Metal, but the discount is a welcome advantage when you travel.
For completely free lounge access on every trip, only the Ultra plan (€60/month) offers it for the account holder.
Metal or Premium: which should I choose?
The general rule: choose Premium if your spending in foreign currencies is moderate and you do not need phone insurance (€10.99/month). Move up to Metal if you want the physical metal card, phone insurance included and RevPoints ×5 vs Standard. Fee-free exchange is unlimited on both plans.
An important point: Premium and Metal both offer lounge access at a reduced rate. So the main difference between the two plans is not the lounge, but the physical metal card, phone insurance, RevPoints ×5 vs ×2.5 and the ATM allowance (€800/month vs €400/month). For free, unlimited lounge access, only Ultra offers it.
Does Revolut Metal include phone insurance?
Yes, Revolut Metal includes phone insurance covering theft, loss and accidental damage to your smartphone. This cover applies automatically as soon as your Metal subscription is active, with no separate sign-up needed.
It is one of the exclusives of the Metal and Ultra plans: Standard, Plus and Premium do not offer this protection. Equivalent phone insurance taken out with your mobile operator or an insurer generally costs between €5 and €12 a month depending on the smartphone model, a direct saving built into your subscription.
Is the Revolut Metal card sturdy and well made?
The Revolut Metal card is made of brushed stainless steel (Stainless steel (18 g)). It is significantly heavier than a standard plastic card, which weighs around 5 grams. The weight is immediately noticeable and adds to the "premium" experience.
In terms of durability, it stands up well to surface scratches and bending. Functionally, it has an NFC chip for contactless payment and a standard magnetic stripe. Users generally rate it very highly for looks and sturdiness. It is delivered in neat packaging within 3 to 5 working days of ordering.
