Which Revolut plan for your profile?

Each plan was designed for a specific use. Here is who each one is really for.

The occasional user

Recommended plan: Standard

You rarely use your card and seldom travel. Standard is more than enough. No need to pay for features you will not use.

Discover Standard →

The weekend traveller

Recommended plan: Plus

1 to 3 trips a year and a need for basic insurance. Plus covers the essentials for €3.99/month. The travel insurance alone justifies the subscription.

Discover Plus →

The frequent traveller

Recommended plan: Premium

Unlimited exchange, full travel insurance, ×2.5 RevPoints vs Standard. Premium pays for itself from 2 trips a year. Ideal if you exchange more than €500/month in foreign currencies.

Discover Premium →

The nomadic professional

Recommended plan: Metal

Stainless steel card, ×5 RevPoints vs Standard, discounted lounge access, phone insurance. Metal easily pays for itself from €1,000 of monthly spending. The metal card is a real plus in business meetings.

Discover Metal →

The ultra-premium user

Recommended plan: Ultra

×10 RevPoints vs Standard, free unlimited lounges (around €28 saved per visit vs Metal), platinum card, Amazon Prime included. Ultra pays off for profiles who fly frequently (1.5 lounge visits a month or more) or spend €3,000+/month.

When upgrading pays off, and when it does not

Moving to a higher plan should be a rational decision. Here are the real break-even thresholds.

Standard Plus

Worth it if: you travel at least 2 to 3 times a year AND need travel insurance. At €3.99/month, the Plus plan is almost free compared with the cost of separate travel insurance.

Pointless if: you never travel abroad and do not use the insurance features.

Standard Premium

Worth it if: you spend €500+ a month in foreign currencies OR travel often and value full travel insurance. Unlimited exchange alone quickly saves the €10.99/month.

Pointless if: fewer than 2 trips a year and under €500 of monthly spending in foreign currencies.

Premium Metal

Worth it if: you travel regularly AND spend €1,000+ a month. The ×5 RevPoints (vs ×2.5 on Premium) + the metal card + phone insurance quickly recoup the €8 difference vs Premium.

Pointless if: under €700 of monthly spending and rare trips.

Metal Ultra

Worth it if: you use lounges 1.5 times a month or more (each visit saves around €28 vs Metal) or spend €3,000+/month: the ×10 RevPoints vs ×5 then generate a significant surplus. The extra cost to cover is €41.01 a month.

Pointless if: you rarely fly and spend under €2,500/month through Revolut.

Frequently asked questions about Revolut plans

What is the difference between Revolut Premium and Metal?

The main difference between Premium (€10.99/month) and Metal (€18.99/month) comes down to three points:

  • RevPoints multiplier: ×2.5 on Premium (1 point per €4), ×5 on Metal (1 point per €2).
  • Insurance: Metal adds phone insurance and delay compensation (up to €500) on top of Premium's full travel cover.
  • Physical card: Metal includes a genuine stainless steel card (18 g), sturdier and with a premium design.

Both plans give discounted access to airport lounges (around €28 per visit); only Ultra offers free, unlimited access for the account holder. No personal plan includes cashback (it is reserved for Revolut Pro accounts). Metal is worth it from roughly €1,000 of monthly spending, when the ×5 RevPoints and the metal card offset the €8 price difference.

Is Revolut Ultra really worth €60/month?

Ultra is the hardest plan to justify, but it can genuinely pay for itself for very heavy users. Free, unlimited lounges (each visit saves around €28 compared with Metal's discounted rate) are the main lever: 1.5 visits a month are enough to cover the extra €41.01 over Metal. The ×10 RevPoints (versus ×5) and free ATM withdrawals up to €2,000/month (then 2%) come as additional benefits, as do the partner perks (Amazon Prime included, ChatGPT Go for 12 months, 5 GB/month eSIM).

In short: Ultra is worth it if you regularly spend €3,000 or more a month and travel frequently. Below that, Metal offers better value for money.

Can you change Revolut plan at any time?

Yes, Revolut plans are flexible. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan directly from the app. When downgrading, you keep the benefits until the end of your billing period. When upgrading, you are charged pro rata for the rest of the current month.

On a monthly subscription, flexibility is total. On an annual subscription, switching mid-period may incur fees: check the terms in the app.

Is the Standard plan enough for travelling?

Standard is enough for occasional, light travel, particularly for payments in foreign currencies (up to €1,000/month fee-free, then 0.5%) and ATM withdrawals (€200/month free). However, it includes no travel insurance at all.

If you travel without any other cover (traditional bank card, mutuelle, etc.), the Plus or Premium plan is strongly recommended as soon as you take a flight. Travel insurance can be worth several hundred euros in the event of hospitalisation abroad.

Does Revolut charge hidden fees?

Revolut is broadly transparent about its fees, but a few points deserve attention:

  • Weekend exchange surcharge: from Friday 5 pm to Sunday 6 pm (New York time), Revolut applies a 1% surcharge on Standard and 0.5% on Plus. Premium, Metal and Ultra are not affected.
  • Exceeding the exchange allowance: 0.5% above €1,000/month (Standard) or €3,000/month (Plus).
  • Exceeding the ATM allowance: above the free monthly limit, 2% of the amount (minimum €1) on every plan, Ultra included.
  • Physical card delivery: one standard card is free, but express shipping may be charged.
  • International transfers outside the SEPA area: specific fees may apply depending on the country and currency.

Always check the official fee schedule on Revolut.com for full details.
