On 3 September 2026, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the regulator of US national banks, granted conditional approval for the creation of Revolut Bank US, N.A., a full bank to be based in Stamford, Connecticut, with around $95 million of initial capital.
What is still required
- Approval from the Federal Reserve (supervision of the bank holding company).
- Membership of the FDIC, the US deposit insurance scheme.
- Meeting the conditions set by the OCC (capital, governance, compliance), which are standard for a new bank.
Revolut is targeting a US banking launch in the first half of 2027. Until now, Revolut has operated in the United States through a partner bank, without a licence of its own.
Why it matters, even for a customer in France
This step follows the same strategy as the French banking licence obtained on 10 August 2026: Revolut is gradually replacing partnerships and branches with locally licensed banks under direct regulatory supervision. For a customer in France nothing changes day to day; it is a signal about the strength and trajectory of a group that now counts more than 75 million customers worldwide.
